Walking With the Mark
Freedom is one of the greatest gifts God gives, but Scripture shows us that freedom is never the finish line. It is the doorway.

In Deuteronomy 15, the servant is released with dignity and provision. Nothing is owed. Nothing is forced. Yet the servant chooses to stay. That decision reveals something powerful about the heart of devotion. True surrender is never demanded, it is desired.

God has always valued willing hearts over forced compliance. Throughout Scripture, obedience that flows from love carries weight. It produces stability, maturity, and trust. When devotion is chosen, it reshapes how a person lives, listens, and responds.

The doorpost in Scripture is more than wood and beams. It represents transition points, places where decisions are made. Blood on the doorpost marked protection. The servant’s mark at the doorpost marked permanence. One speaks of safety. The other speaks of loyalty.

The ear being pierced reminds us that devotion begins with listening. God is not only concerned with where we stand, but with what we are willing to hear. A servant who listens carefully walks differently than one who only hears selectively.

Jesus echoed this truth when He tied love to obedience. Love is not proven by words alone but by faithful alignment. When love leads, obedience follows without resentment or fear.

Paul understood this deeply. Though free in Christ, he identified himself as a servant. Not because he lost freedom, but because he found purpose. Devotion did not diminish his life, it clarified it.

Freedom without devotion often leads to drifting. Freedom with surrender leads to rootedness. God does not free His people so they can wander aimlessly, but so they can stand firmly where He places them.

The mark of a servant is not loud or flashy. It is steady. It is costly. It is quiet faithfulness that chooses the house of God again and again.

Ask yourself honestly:
  • Where has God already given me freedom?
  • Where is He inviting me to deepen my devotion?
  • Am I listening fully, or selectively?
  • What doorway decision is God asking me to make right now?

Take ten minutes today to sit quietly with God. No agenda. No rushing. Ask Him this simple question:
“Lord, where are You asking me to stay?”

Write down what comes to mind. Return to it throughout the week.

Freedom opens the door.

Devotion decides whether we remain.

That is the mark of a servant.

Your B.R.E.A.D. for Today
B – Believe What God Has Done
Take time today to thank God for the freedom He has already given you.
Don’t rush past redemption. Sit with it. Freedom is real, and it matters.

R – Remain Where God Placed You
Ask yourself honestly, am I staying under God’s covering or hovering at the doorway.
Faith grows where we remain, not where we drift.

E – Examine Your Hearing
Pay attention to what you’ve been tuning out.
Is there an area where God has been speaking, but you’ve been selective in listening.

A – Align Your Choices
Choose one decision today that reflects devotion, not convenience.
Alignment often shows up in small, quiet obediences.

D – Declare Your Devotion
Speak this out loud today:
“I am free, and I choose to stay where God has placed me. I belong here.”

God Bless,
Pastor Jeremy
